Lucia Perez, that is transitioning from male to female, actively seeks a new lease of life – one which she will embrace without making her family members or her church behind.

“God doesn’t make mistakes,” says Lucia. “He does every thing for an intention.”
One rainy in November, Lucia PГ©rez walks across the parking lot of the First Baptist Church of Concord sunday. She closes her rainbow umbrella and shakes the tactile hand associated with man who greets her inside your home of Jesus.

Spanish-speaking guys, ladies and kiddies fill every work work bench. Lucia, an immigrant that is forty-seven-year-old Nicaragua, takes a chair close to the backside regarding the church.

Lucia is searching for comfort and community about this chilly early early morning—except that to feel she’s welcomed as of this church, Lucia and her spouse, Yadira, told the pastor that Lucia is just a hermaphrodite and a virgin. Even though this transgender Latina hides her sex change from church people, she’s available with Jesus.
For several years, Lucia preferred conversing with her medical therapist. She was never angry at God although she struggled for decades to understand how this could have occurred. These days Lucia visits her therapist every Friday and would go to church on Sundays because she’s got grown to believe that Jesus, too, knows her.

Lots of Lucia’s transgender buddies are far more skeptical about their churches. Some have actually originate from conventional homes that are mexican strict Catholic upbringings.
